Brunch brunch brunch!
So if you have been following along, you know that we recently reviewed The Blue Ox, located in Lynn. The owner of the Blue Ox is Chef and culinary mastermind Matt O’ Neil. Matt took his talents to Salem, Ma in 2017 and opened Ledger Restaurant, which is where we landed today. Ledger is located in the heart of Salem on Washington Street inside of the former Salem Savings Bank (which was originally built in 1818!).
While we didn’t come across any ghosts in the renovated bank we came across something equally as exciting and hair raising, Brunch. Ledger provides a full brunch menu with all of the characters you would expect, but done expertly.
Eggs Benedict: We believe that much like a simple cheese pizza should be used as the true test of a great pizza place, the same goes with Eggs Benedict at brunch spots. The Ledger Eggs Benedict did not disappoint, with the benedict components being piled on top of what can only be described as a gargantuan homemade English muffin.
Chicken and Waffles: Many brunch spots serve chicken and waffles, but none so far have done it up the way Ledger has. The buttermilk fried chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, served atop a soft waffle which is not too sweet, helping to boost the savory flavor of the chicken. What elevates this dish though is poblano butter and hot honey drizzle which tops this masterpiece. The spice is not overwhelming, but if you need to wash it down try one of the many brunch cocktails, cold brew coffees, or craft beers which are apart of the bar selection.
If you are in the Salem neighborhood and are looking for a frightfully good brunch (see what I did there) try out the Ledger Restaurant and Bar. Cheers!
